The Opening

Finally it happen! I just got back from the opening night of my show. An incredible intense experience and i love every minute of it. After a year working in studio this is the moment that my hard work get appreciated it.....and it only last about 2 hours!  

I found it is very hard to say hello to everyone who come to the show. I want to thank them all but it seem to be a very hard job to do. I think i did well but i am sure that i miss quite a few people. If you read this blog i want to say thank you to you for your support and i am very sorry that i did not catch up with you at the opening. 

One of my friend come all the way from Thailand to see my show. that is very touch! Thank you Pee Ton :)

It was so good to see fellow artists come to my show and give me a lot of encouragement. I also enjoy comment from the audiences as well as they really help me developing my work. 

Kevin Murray kindly open the show for me. He gave a very good opening speech which i will post on the video section later on. 

After the opening my friends and i went to Leo restaurant for a big dinner. Oh i feel so good after that big spaghetti marinara and orange and almond cake. however, after i got home i feel really tried and strangely I feel relive. Now i can have a day or two rest before i start working again.

Set Up!!

Finally its the day i am dreading for. A set up day for my exhibition.

It seem to be a lot of work involve in setting up one show. So to my surprise this show is so easy to set up. It took me 2 days for packing, a few trips between my studio and the gallery and another day (today) to set up the whole show. 

I have about 5 peoples help me set up the show. May be that's why it is so easy and fast. the hardest part is arranging which work go where. One wrong move could ruin the whole set up and have to re do it again.  

I have my own idea of how to set the show but the gallery staff also has their idea as well so at the end i just let the gallery staff do what they do best, setting up a show. I just sit and watch and sometime move the work here and there.  i think the end result is really good. Some time i you have to let your ego go and let the gallery do their job. 

Now i will have to keep my fingers cross for the preview tomorrow and the opening the day after.

New baby

I am a loyal costumer of PC for a long time. My partner is also a big PC fan so we get along really well. However, for the last 10-12 months my interest ship from PC to MAC. I don't know why but every time i see imac i have to stop and play with it. I think i fall in love with it. I slowly develop a great wish that one day i will have my mac on my working desk. For many months i keep putting off the decision of buying one as it is not cheap ad my PC still working well. Then i met Gerry Wedd  at the Australia Ceramic Stories exhibition. He bring out his mac book from a very groovy bag and rave about it, how good mac is. At that moment i made up my mind, as soon as i get enough money I will get a mac!.  And today is the day! Well i still don't have enough money but my partner is kindly get it for me..(how lucky!). 

It looks so nice on my working desk and make the whole room sparkling with minimalism design. I want to re-decorate my working room to fit with my IMAC! 

After the happy moment, i then realise that i will have to learn so many new things and adjust my computer habit to a new style...... I still try to do right click on imac mouse!

Presents and Packing !!!

Yesterday, it was like my favorite birthday party again because when i arrived home i saw 4 parcels waiting for me at the front door. They are from Kirsten Coelho, great potter from Adelaide. I opened all the boxes right at the spot, not even get inside the house first. Below is an image of what inside the boxes. What a beautiful work. I am so lucky to own these exquisite pottery set.

Well, after such a wonderful feeling yesterday, i am back to my normal "on the edge" mode again. It happen every time when i just about to have a solo show. Glad to have some distraction from from Kirsten's great pots.

Finally, I think I am ready for my solo show next week. I did all the finishing touch and start packing since yesterday. Now all the works are in boxes ready to be delivery to Uber gallery this weekend. However, let me tell you packing is not an enjoyable task at all. It took me almost 2 full days to complete it. A bit scare to think that i will have to redo the whole process again when the show finish.


Theses boxes are in my meditation room so I have not meditate in this room for a while.
Below are boxes in my studio. It seem like i have to drive to Uber gallery a few time as my car can only fit 3-4 boxes at a time and i have about 20 something boxes!.


I bought a whole new roll of bubble wrap today and three quarter of it went into this packing process!

Australian Ceramic Stories

I feel so privilege to be part of this amazing exhibition. I was there at the opening last weekend and participated in a one day forum. What a fantastic weekend.

Like a book of short stories, Australian Ceramic Stories (ACS) is an exhibition of many tales, told through the work of twelve Australian Ceramicists. Surveying the work of artists from across the country, the exhibition includes many new works by some of the Nation's most highly regarded ceramic artists.

Dubbo Regional Gallery - The Armati Bequest is staging the exhibition from 5 April - 18 May 2008 at Western Plains Cultural Centre. Curated by Dr Julia Jones, the exhibition is inspired by Canadian ceramicist Matthias Ostermann’s research which resulted in the book The Ceramic Narrative in 2006.

All of the ceramicists tell stories about Australia in ways that stretch the narrative capabilities of clay, and draw our attention to the versatility of the medium. The exhibition engages with contemporary themes and ideas in the broader visual arts and ceramic practices and the various ways in which narrative is shared.

Participating artists are Stephen Benwell, Louise Boscacci, Kris Coad, Patrick Collins, Bern Emmerichs, Gudrun Klix, Pip McManus, Fleur Schell, Mel Robson, Thanakupi, Gerry Wedd, and me!

International Mouse/Rat Teapot Exhibition Opening in Shanghai, China

International Mouse/Rat Teapot Exhibition organised by Hwang Jeng-daw (Andy), a potter living in Taiwan.

Andy invited me to participate in the show since June last year. The show is on from 29 Feb-31 May this year.

There are 22 artists from 17 Countries participate in the show.

Andy send me some image of the opening night and it look like a fun night. And the set up look fantastic. I think i might go there next time.

Andy is now organising a next year show. The theme is Cow/Ox which will be show around Jan-April next year. The theme came from “Chinese Twelve Symbolic Animals”, a traditional way in China to number the years and to record a person’s age.

Brian Kakas

I met Brian at Janet De Boo opening a couple nights ago. He is currently a candidate in the Doctor of Fine Arts program at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Australia.

Brian makes an amazing work, very large and complex form. Here from his statement " In my experience I achieve set goals by dedication and persistence. By working within parameters I gain: discipline in studio practice, consistency of sculptural forms, and evaluative criteria for which to assess the outcomes. The parameters are set by the materials, methodologies and explorations between tradition and innovation. I strive to create a new perception in the possibilities of form and the tectonics of the ceramic medium for the arts and industry. I am presently exploring the interrelationships and intentions between the maker and the material. Through my aspired process of invention, it is my intent to find natural form by staying true to chosen materials and their inherent properties."

Birds

Recently i start playing with birds form. There are so many birds around my house. They often wake me up in the morning with their song and i love it. So i return their favour by providing them a birdbath.

The birdbath site next to my computer room window which i often look out and see them bathing. A good relaxing after many hours looking at the screen monitor.

I think i have one regular couple pigeons visit my house. May be they just leave around the corner. They always come together and sunbathing on my driveway. Sometime when i work in a garage they come to say hello. They often walk right almost to where i sit and sing. I sing back to them sometime goo goo goo and surprisingly they return my song!

One morning i woke up and feel the urge to make birds. So i did!. I think things around us is a great source of inspiration. I made only four birds and i like them very much. They will be presents for a guest speaker who open my show next month, a thai ceramic artist who given me one of her beautiful cup, for myself and the last one will be for swapping with someone else bird!

Simon Caroll workshop

On the weekend of 15/16 May this year i did a workshop with Simon Carroll, a famous potter form UK. The workshop organise by Ceramic Victoria.

Base on Cornwall, England, Simon bring a fresh perspective to ceramic. From a beginning of 1st degree Honours in ceramics; then teaching at Royal School of Art in London; through travel, teaching and lecturing, Simon has involve into something of a trail blazer. His work is feature in collections at Paisley Museum and the Alberystwyth Arts Center.

Over the weekend Simon show us how to push boundaries of ceramic - to work quickly and freely and to create some really 'gob-smacking' work.

He teach us how to throw and use plaster mould to alter the shape. I did not do his throwing techniques as i am not a thrower but i did try his approach to make work quickly and freely. After the workshop i think i have some idea of my new series of work! You can see the workshop and result of the workshop at my PHOTO section, under Simon Carroll Workshop.

เคยอ่านหนังสือของเพลงดาบฯครั้งหนึ่งนานมาแล้ว ชื่อ "เด็ดดอกไม้ริมทาง" อ่านแล้วติดใจมาก พอมีเพื่อนจะมา Melbourne ก็รีบฝากซื้อหนังสือของเพลงดาบฯมาหลายเล่ม แต่เพื่อนหามาได้แค่สองเล่มเอง ได้ไม่มากเท่าที่อยาแต่ดีกว่าไม่ได้เลย เล่มแรกที่อ่านคือ "ภูมิคุ้มใจ" อีกเล่มที่เอาไว้อ่านทีหลังคือ
" เที่ยวพิพิธภัณฑ์ต่างแดน "

"ภูมิคุ้มใจ" เป็นหนังสือที่น่ารักมาก น่าเก็บน่าถนุถนอม สำนักพิมพ์วงกลมทำหนังสือได้สวยมาก ดูตั้งใจและปราณีตจริงๆ เสียดายสำนักพิมพ์ไม่มีเว็ปให้ตามหาว่า พิมพ์อะไรออกมาขายบ้าง จะได้ตามเก็บให้หมด

"วิธีเพื่อก้าวไปสู่ความสำเร็จที่ใช้ได้จริงกับทุกคน โดยวาทยกรไทยผู้เป็นหนึ่งบนเวทีโลก" หนังสือบออกไว้อย่างนั้น อ่านแล้วก็เห็นจริง เกิดไฟทันที อยากทดลองตามที่เขาเขียนไว้ เนื้อหาคล้ายๆกับหนังสือ The Secret ที่ติดอันดับยอดนิยมอย่างกว้างขวาง แต่อ่านได้ง่ายกว่า เข้าใจง่ายกว่า อาจเป็นเพราะตัวหนังสือพิมพ์ใหญ่์มาก เว้นช่องไฟแบบไม่กลัวเปลืองที่ จึงอ่านจบได้ในไม่ถึงชั่วโมง เมื่อเนื้อหาไม่เยอะก็จำเรื่องได้ง่าย ไม่สับสน

เป็นที่น่ายินดีที่ได้เห็นความสำเร็จของคนไทยในระดับนานาชาติ และน่าภูมิใจที่เห็นคนไทยเขียนเรื่องแนวนี้ ไม่ใช่ต้องแปลมาจากต่างชาติอย่างเดียว คุณบัณฑิต เขียนขึ้นเพราะเมื่อก่อนอยากอ่านหนังสือแนวนี้ แต่หาไม่มี เลยคิดเขียนขึ้นมาเอง และทำได้เป็นอย่างดีด้วย

คุณบัณฑิต เชื่อว่าโชคนั้นเป็นของที่สร้างกันได้ จะสร้างอย่างไรนั้น คงต้องอ่านจาก 30 วิธีเอาชนะโชคชะตา นะครับ

เล่มสองของ Kerry Greenwood ต่อจาก Earthly Delight อ่านเล่มหนึ่งจบก็ต่อเล่มสองทันที ด้วยความที่ติดใจ อยากรู้เรื่องราวต่างๆ
ของตัวละครในเรื่อง

คราวนี้ผู้เขียนสอกแทรกเรื่องปัญหาการคลุมถุงชน การทุจริตในแวดวงธุรกิจ gay relationship และอื่นๆอีกมาก คราวนี้ตื่นเต้นกว่าเล่มแรก แต่ก็ยังคงออกแนวสบายๆ นุ่มๆ อ่านได้สบายใจ มีตัวละครใหม่เพิ่มขึ้นอีกหลายตัว ทั้งคน และแมว

เล่มแรกเน้นเรื่องขนมปัง เล่มนี้เน้น ช็อคโกแล็ต มีสูตรให้ทำตามตอนท้ายเล่มด้วย ที่เด่นสุดเห็นจะเป็น Chocolate Orgasm Muffins ที่ผู้ช่วยของนางเอกเป็นผู้คิดคันสูตรขึ้นมา อ่านวิธีทำดูแล้วไม่น่าจะยาก

อ่านสองเล่มติดกันแล้วเริ่มจะเลี่ยนๆ คงต้องหยุดพักเล่มสามไว้ก่อน ไปหาอย่างอื่นอ่านคั่นบ้าง เปลี่ยนอารมณ์ ตอนนี้มีหนังสือรอให้อ่านแยอะมาก เดี๋ยวมีเพื่อนขนมาให้อีก เกือบสิบเล่มวันศุกร์นี้ ไม่ทราบทำไมเป็นโรคติดหนังสืออย่างนี้ ถึงไม่ได้อ่านก็ขอให้ได้ซื้อเถอะ แต่จริงๆแล้วก็อ่านเกือบทุกเล่ม แต่ใช้เวลาหน่อย มีใครเป็นโรคเดียวกันบ้างเอ่ย
